Typeface; Parekh

Typeface Design
Iteration Design

This project aims to think of a 26 character alphabet of fingerprints. I created this using my family’s fingerprints and thus I decided to call it “Parekh.”  What began as sketches to illustrate the typeface without using any digital tools or drawing - focussing only on using found objects (I used my body in this case) - resulted in the creation of a system of dots and dashes while using fingerprints to make a typeface.

Process Work
Below are a few images that show the iterative design approaches I used. Includes employing different methods of mark making using paint and ink such as, stamping, dragging, layering and overlapping to capture the fingerprint. As well as experimenting with gloves to create letterforms, forming stencils and templates and digital scanning.
